Rain Chain Barrels

We would love to put 4-6 of your whiskey barrel rain barrels around our house in the Pacific Northwest. However, we want to use them with our existing rain chains, not downspouts and diverters. Is there a way we could have barrels that don’t use a hose for intake? -Lyssa M. from Issaquah, WA

The answer was yes, I often make barrels to accommodate rain chains per request, here are a few pictures of Lyssa’s installed barrels on her beautiful “all-wood” home using nice thick cuts of anchor chain. The top of the barrel uses tough black outdoor PVC screen that is tightened down by the barrel hoop to maintain its natural appearance, all water that hits it is absorbed efficiently. The rain chain in the image is extremely heavy but no worries; the screen up top can also handle a considerable amount of weight.

Lyssa had not yet attached all the garden hoses, (on each barrel she requested a regular spigot, irrigation spigot and 3/4″ overflow) which gives her three opportunities (per barrel) to run water to specific areas of the yard.

Lyssa noted that she painted the barrel hoops with brown Rustoleum paint to preserve them (though this is not required).
